Wire Storage Solutions!

Hey, yall! We get asked quite a bit how we store our wire, and while it is an ever evolving situation, here is how we are currently keeping it organized! There are some affiliate links provided throughout this article that help support our business if you shop through them, but they are provided to help anyone who is in a shopping mood to get started to finding their perfect fit!

My all time favorite way of storing spools of wire is on a bit of peg board. Pictured here we have (from top to bottom) 18ga, 20ga, 22ga, 24ga, 26ga, and 28ga in the enameled copper tones of (from left to right) Vintage bronze, Antique copper, and non-tarnish copper. The bottom 6 spools of wire are titanium toned enameled copper wire in the same gauges as previously listed; I just had to hang it all this way to get everything to fit.

I am not sponsored or affiliated with Parawire, I just really love their products! Before discovering their enameled copper wire it was a real struggle to make high quality jewelry that would age well while being Affordable; Parawire was all of these things for me Plus its easy to work with. Their spools are pretty standard size in the wire industry, so this method of storage can be used for just about any wire you may have!

I use these pegs to hang the wire: amzn.to/3Srn2jn I ran into frustrations with getting the pegs from different stores because they all seemed to be just a bit different, so I ended up donating what I had purchased and splurged on getting all the hooks in one package so they would all hang at the same angle. Its the little things!

My main work surface for wire wrapping is a vintage sewing machine desk with three drawers. I use the middle and bottom drawer for storing any wire that I have that is enameled copper or aluminum that doesn't fit on my peg board. I use these bins to keep bags of square and half round wire, as well as smaller spools of wire, contained: amzn.to/41bt3Vh I also love this makeup organizer to hold my square and half round wire: amzn.to/3EkGqbS

In the bottom drawer of my craft desk there is an insert that I keep oddball spools of wire in, as well as overstock of my bigboi spools that typically go on the pegboard. In the bottom of the drawer I use a plate rack to hold my jumbo spools of 16ga wire.

All of wire that does tarnish (bare copper and sterling silver) I keep in the drawer of my jewelers desk in general disarray. This is also where I store all my loose packs of silica gel that come in shoes or things that we buy online; whether or not this is effective at helping with tarnish, I have no idea, but points for effort? So far I haven't had any major tarnishing issues of the stored wire, even through our humid summers.

I hope this is helpful to you! Please let us know if you have any questions. Comment below to share how you store your wire!
